My Journey

I love the sense of peace and calm that comes with an expansive view

Early Inspirations

My childhood was divided between being outdoors — running with horses, running with friends, and racing home across the fields for dinner, usually late again! — and making things.

Those early experiences are the source of my love of the outdoors and my curiosity about how things are made. I was always figuring out how a craft had been constructed or how a painting had been put together. That curiosity has stayed with me and continues to shape the way I paint today.

For my whole life, being outside in nature has calmed and soothed a sensitive soul.

My paintings explore the experience of being outdoors - not only what is seen but the atmosphere, movement, light and feeling of a place. I am particularly drawn to the coast and the changing moods of the British landscape.

II am an expressive British landscape painter working in oils and acrylics from my studio on the borders of North Hampshire and West Berkshire.

I am mostly self-taught and have developed my practice through ongoing experimentation and study, including recent tutelage from Royal College of Art tutor and Courtauld Institute scholar Martin Kinnear.

In 2022, I was a finalist in the Sketch for Survival open call, exhibiting at the OXO Building Gallery on London’s South Bank. Since then, I have exhibited widely, in Newbury, Oxfordshire, Petersfield and Somerset.

Creative Process

All of my work begins outdoors. Sometimes it is complete outdoors. Other times my time outdoors gives the start of an idea which I work on in the studio.

I work in oils, acrylics and occasionally in mixed media.
